Houston-area USA Wrestling Charter Clubs support youth development in the sport
2019 has been a breakthrough year for the sport of wrestling in Texas. Wrestlers from the Lonestar state made headlines finding success at the highest levels of the sport.
Penn State’s Bo Nickal, a Texas native, capped his collegiate career with his 3rdNCAA title. Nickal also earned the Dan Hodge Award for the most outstanding wrestler in the NCAA tournament.
At the high school level, Daniel Manibog is the latest NCAA Division I recruit out of the Houston area. Manibog of Katy High School has committed to wrestle at Oklahoma State next year. Last year, Colin Lawler of Kinkaid High School became a National Prep Champion and earned a scholarship to NC State University.
Perhaps most exciting of all, USA Wrestling youth participation in the Texas South Region is booming. Wrestling clubs are critical to developing grassroots talent, and most clubs offer instruction for kids as young as three years old. Read our blog on why wrestling is a great sport for kids.
