How did you get involved in the fitness industry?
Our background with strength training started with football. We played semi-pro for the Fort Bend Storm. Once we decided to pursue fitness as a profession, we both became certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and interned at DST. We’ve had great mentors including Kevin Poppe (DST) and Coach Leroy Franklin who also trains with us at Paradigm.
How have you adapted to train combat sports athletes?
We are constantly talking to the athletes at Paradigm and educating ourselves so we can cater to combat sports. We started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ourselves, which has also helped us tailor our workouts to what these athletes need.
What makes the Strength & Conditioning program at Paradigm different?
Every exercise we show, the test is—How is this going to benefit one of my athletes, and how can it apply to each discipline specifically? At Paradigm we have hobbyists training alongside professional fighters. It’s a motivating environment and everyone is supportive of one another.
If I came to a class what should I expect?
The classes are structured to go multiple 3-5 minute rounds of high intensity anaerobic exercise. We use HIIT style workouts and a lot of high rep endurance exercises. We also like going to failure—we call it BEAST MODE!
